Start at Brillac Marie or at Brillac holiday village.
BEHIND THE HOLIDAY VILLAGE & DOWN TO THE RIVER Standing on the road to Lesterps you will see the Marie on your left and a small bow shaped road on the right, take this road as it descends below the main road for 100M , you will pass over a small water course on your left, take the track on the right just before the lane re-joins the main road. Continue the path for a few hundred metres. You will pass a small green gate that is where you will begin your journey if you are starting at Brillac holiday village. Follow the track as it runs behind the swimming pool. After 100M you will see a small footpath to the right leading to the river.
DOWN TO “THE BEACH” & ALONG THE RIVER Turn left on the footpath, parallel to the river until you reach a small wooden gate. Pass through the gate, remembering to lock it. (Put any dog on a lead as there are often sheep in this field and the next one). Follow the course of the river passing through another gate, under the road bridge. Follow the path for 250M until you reach a stile. Join the track continuing to keep the river on your right-hand side. You will see a restored old cottage in front of you. Just after the cottage you will see a small path to the right which takes you to “The Fall” and “The Beach”. Take a quick look before heading back to the main path running parallel to the river. You will follow this for about 2 ½ kilometres. (Ignore any tracks heading left, these lead to private property).
MOULIN DES DAMES TO LE RIBOURGEON You will come to some buildings on your left-hand side just before reaching a little lane. Turn left onto the lane and follow the bends around the pretty hamlet, Moulin des Dames. The lane climbs a hill before reaching a T-junction at Le Ribourgeon. (If you wish to take the short route back to Brillac, at the junction turn right and immediately left down a track. You will remain on the track for about 1 Km. When you reach a T-junction follow the left-hand track, heading back in the direction of Brillac.)
TO PLEUVIT AND RETURN
After about 3 ½ km you will reach a lane, taking a small right to join the road. After 5oo metres you will pass the modern and beautifully designed retirement home and the cemetery. Once at the square in front of the Marie you can take the right back to the church or if returning to the Villages de Vacances follow the directions at the top of the page to take you to the bottom gate.
